Akile Simon, a cameraman employed with Win TV, was beaten and robbed yesterday by six men while filming flood waters in east Port-of-Spain.

In a telephone interview, Simon, also a senior reporter, said around 1.35 pm he was near the Port-of-Spain Abattoir on South Quay when the men accosted him

Simon said he was standing next to a marked Win TV car operating the camera from the roadway when one of the men shouted, “Is a cameraman.”

“One of them locked my neck while another jerked me against the car,” Simon said.

He said the men then robbed him of the camera, his Nokia $1,700 cellphone and $350.

One of the assailants also cuffed Simon in the face. The suspects then fled.

Simon made a report to the Besson Street Police Station and up to late yesterday officers under Sgt David Hunt were searching for suspects.
