Former manager of social investment, Corporate Communications, RBTT
Don La Foucade said yesterday Rotarians have an urgent responsibility
to create programmes to stem the tide of youth violence and delinquency.
He made this comment while delivering the feature address to members
of the Port-of-Spain West Rotary Club. Yesterdays meeting
was held at Cascadia Hotel in St Anns.
Among those present were president Brian Jones, past president Saty
Seemungal, Guardian editor Valentino Singh, past president Christopher
Kelshall and members Dr Paul Faigenbaum, Judy Wilson and Jerry Popplewell.
La Foucade said he had assisted about 200 youths from YTC on rehabilitating
and restoring their broken lives.
Young
men are hurting. Do come up with youth initiatives. Do not hide
behind your gated communities. These are people who built them.
They know how they are built. Its only a matter of time before
they visit.
There
are young women. You need to share your experiences with them. They
all need to know somebody cares about them, he added.
But he was optimistic, saying: All is not lost. There are
a lot of people, hopefully Rotarians, who believe they can make
a difference.
