Watch out for that PowerballThursday, July 3 2008
KEEP an eye on Powerball in the 1750 metres race for West Indies-bred three-year-olds on Arima Race Club Day 24 at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, on Saturday.
This bay colt from the Glenn Mendez barn was an impressive 4 1/4 lengths winner of his maiden run over 1350 metres, and has gone on the right way judged by his gallops form.
On Tuesday, Powerball nailed a 600 metres gallop in the very good time of 35.4 seconds, enjoying the sloppy underfoot conditions.
Also engaged in the $30,000 race is Joint Effort, the St James Stakes winner, who seems to be slowly regaining his form.
The Jamaica-bred chestnut gelding had a good spin yesterday morning together with stablemate Champagne On Deck, with the pair clocking a good 35.49 seconds for the run.
Another out of the Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj barn to show some dash was Star Of Sharon who clocked 37.45 seconds for a 600 metres run together with All For You Babes and Indian Babylon.
Windjammer shaped well in a 600 metres gallop, stopping the clock in a good 35.4 seconds and should be noted in the Restricted Handicap. This Mendez-trained gelding led for a long way in the recent Stud Farm Association National Stakes which was run over 1800 metres.
