VETERAN Marlon Warner netted the first hattrick of the season in the National Super League with three second half goals for Crab Connection on Wednesday on the Hasely Crawford Stadium Training Ground in Mucurapo.

The three strikes in the 63rd, 84th and 90th minutes by Warner sealed a 3-1 win for Crab Connection over M&M Harvard, which opened the scoring in the 52nd minute through Glenn Walker.

The National Under-20 team was also off to a bright start, winning its first round match 7-0 over fellow-debutants UTT (University of T&T), after leading 4-0 at the interval. The match was played at Skinner Park in San Fernando.

Goalscorers for the national youths were Jamal Clarence (13th and 50th), Andre Ettienne (12th), Sean de Silva (36th), Trent Lougheed (42nd), Jeremiah Goddard (71st) and Akeem Adams (90th).

Alcoa Carenage United, Joe Public and Angostura 1976 FC Phoenix were the other first round winners.

Paced by a lone goal from Kyle Andrews, Carenage United edged newcomers Club Sando 1-0 on the Eddie Hart grounds in Tacarigua.

Eastern “Lions”, Joe Public came from behind twice to whip Harlem Strikers 3-2 at Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya.

Harlem Strikers was off to quick start when Kellon Williams netted in the first minute. The lead was, however, shortlived as Nickson Hills equalised for Joe Public in the 12th minute.

Ryan Dipsingh restored the lead for Strikers nine minutes after Hills’ goal, but second half goals by Keion Wilson was sufficient to give the Easterners the win.

Phoenix also came from a similar position to win by the same score, after Defence Force went into half time leading 2-1 on its home ground in Chaguaramas.

Marksmen for the Tobago club were Kevin Keith (26th), Shelton Wiliams (50th) and Dominique Kerr (67th) while Julius Balondenu (third) and Owen Matthews (28th) netted for the Army-Coast Guard combination.
