A FEMALE student of the University of the West Indies (UWI) was attacked, beaten and gang raped by four men who also stole her valuables, during the early morning hours on Thursday.

The incident occurred at the student’s apartment home in North Trinidad. According to a police report, a group of students had just returned to their apartment from a party when they were attacked by the men, who were believed to be hiding in some bushes nearby.

Reports are that two female students who were in the apartment at the time, fought off the attackers after being beaten and robbed.

The third student was not so lucky.

She was beaten, forced to strip and the four men took turns raping her. They then left the apartment taking with them, money and other valuables.

A report was made to the Police and a search was carried out for the rapists, but no arrests were made.

The student’s parents were contacted and they took the weeping, bleeding victim to a private medical institution.

Yesterday, UWI Guild president Hilan Morean, told Newsday he was aware of a rape and robbery allegation but nothing had been confirmed as internal investigations were still being conducted.

“So far, I have had only informal information. I am yet to speak to the alleged victims and I’m calling on victims of crime on or off campus, to come forward,” Morean said. Police are continuing their investigations.
