Three people were killed in vehicular accidents on Saturday.

The victims were:

* Krishnath Kariah, 62, of Delhi Road, Fyzabad.

* Anthony Francis, 43, of Chase Village, Chaguanas.

* Hazelann Best, 42, St of Ann’s.

Police said Kariah was returning home after “taking a drink” at a nearby bar when he was struck by a car.

The driver of the car, police said, was not aware that Kariah had been hit and reportedly reversed on the elderly man before being alerted by patrons.

Kariah died on the spot, and his grieving relatives said they had no idea what took place.

His sister, Lilawatie, said: “When we approached the driver to speak to him, he did not want to talk to us. Nobody is perfect, and we are not mad, but at least people could have a little courtesy and apologise to us.

“I heard my brother was drunk, but he is human, too. If somebody knocked him down, at least they could tell us sorry.”

In the second accident, police said Francis and Best were heading north on the Solomon Hochoy Highway, when Francis reportedly lost control of his black B14 Nissan Sunny and ran off the road.

The accident occurred around 10.45 pm near the Macaulay Overpass.

Francis and Best died on the spot.

Police said curious onlookers who stopped to gaze at the accident, escaped being seriously injured, as seven cars reportedly crashed into each other.
