Tearful farewell for murdered womanBy SANDRA SINGH Saturday, October 4 2008
JOYCELYN RONDON, grandmother of murdered Felicia Morris yesterday dismissed claims that her granddaughter was unloved and uncared for by her family, despite her “harden” ways.
Rondon was speaking at an emotionally charged funeral service of Morris, 22, who was fatally stabbed by her fiancé, Jason Thomas, 30, on Sunday at his Malabar apartment. Thomas later committed suicide by jumping off the fourth floor of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries early next morning.
Speaking at the service held at K Allen and Sons Funeral Chapel, Rondon said that “there was a perception that Felicia was not loved by her family and that she was not a good child.”
“I want to say that when big people and little people talk, you must listen. She was beautiful and caring but very harden. Regardless of what, we truly loved Felicia very much,” said Rondon.
Morris’ sister, Krystal Noel who delivered the eulogy described her as a “kind, loving, respectful person who got along with everyone.”
“She was very youthful, full of life and outgoing, She loved her children and would like us to do the same,” said Noel. However, after the funeral service, Morris’ relatives lashed out against her murderer, saying that he could have spoken with her relatives about the problems they were experiencing.
“There was rage after the funeral because Felicia was not supposed to die that way. The family welcomed him and he didn’t seem to be that kind of person. He could have come to us, come to the grandparents and talk out the problems.”
“What was he thinking? What he did really hurts. The entire family is grieving. She was a loving child and didn’t deserve that,” said a relative. Morris’ two children Isaiah, five, and Sherlon, one, attended the service yesterday. Reverend Fitzroy Griffith officiated at the service. Morris was later cremated at Allen’s Crematorium.
