TRINIDAD and Tobago finished eighth of the 15 participating countries in the recent International Tennis Federation (ITF) 13 & Under Caribbean Development Championships in Antigua.
Both Kaleigh De Silva and Jualon Greig advanced to the main draw but then failed to win a match, while Scott Lanser lost two of his three matches in the round-robin phase and did not advance to the main draw.
De Silva was in grand form in the round-robin stage as she won her three matches to not only top her group but also gain the No. 2 seeding in the main draw.
But, after a bye, she was beaten 6-1, 7-5 by eventual finalist Keishorea Armstrong of Antigua.
De Silva ended up with a ranking of eighth of the 21 players, while Greig finished ninth of the 28 boys involved in the one-week tournament.
The Tobagonian lost in the opening round of the main draw in three sets, after doing very well in group action.
Greig won two matches and was edged out in the other in a third-set tiebreak. His conqueror, Philip Major of the Bahamas, was eventually crowned champion and won all his other matches in the tournament without dropping a set.
Lanser, representing the country for the first time, finished ranked 23rd.
