HORSE of the Year Swing By and Storm Street could clash in the President's Cup at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, on Saturday.
At the third nomination stage for the 1,900-metre contest for the top bunch, ten horses were left in contention.
The field is spearheaded by leading horse Storm Street, who won the Stewards' Cup last December and returned from a five-month absence just over two weeks ago to slam his field in the Derek Cozier Memorial Sprint.
Swing By finished last in that 1,100-metre event but the Jamaican-bred mare was coming off a six-month layoff and she did win this Grade One event by more than seven lengths last year.
Also included in the field are 2006 Gold Cup winner Straight Ahead, top sprinter Personal Encounter, My Tale and top West Indian-bred horses Chief Commander, Godspell and last year's Gold Cup winner Crown Point.
And in the handicap event, Man Of Class, who finished second on his return from a four-month absence last Saturday, could attempt to win for the 26th time at the centralised venue and overtake Chanticleer for most victories on the course.
Seven other West Indian-bred horses have been entered in the 1,200-metre contest, including Keep The Faith, who has already won five times this season, and Willing To Spend, who came back victorious two weeks ago after being out since last year's Guineas.
Declarations for all races for the 27th round of the Arima Race Club's 2008 Season will take place tomorrow morning at the track.
