KING JUAN Carlos I of Spain and his wife Queen Sofia will visit Trinidad and Tobago from December 1 to 2.

Officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday confirmed the date of arrival.

An itinerary for the Spanish Royals visit is being worked out and will be announced in due course.

At the opening of the Fourth Caricom/Spain summit in Madrid on July 11, Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero announced that the Spanish monarchs would visit TT and Jamaica from December 1 to 4.

“We trust your region. That is why there are major Spanish investments there.” Zapatero said. Trinidad and Tobago was represented at that summit by Local Government Minister Hazel Manning, the wife of Prime Minister Patrick Manning.

Spanish company Repsol YPF is one of the major foreign energy companies operating in this country’s energy sector and a main stakeholder in the Atlantic LNG plant in Point Fortin.

Government sources said energy cooperation and trade will be two of the items on the table for discussion when King Juan Carlos visits TT.
