Scotiabank lends support to women's cricket

OUTSTANDING: Seven girls who were awarded ScotiaYES accounts for their outstanding performances in the Scotiabank Girls' Primary School Cricket Skills Development Camps show off their certificates at the camp's closing ceremony as Scotiabank's assistant manager Sales Support Shazard Mohammed, centre, and Trinidad and Tobago Women's Cricket Board of Control representative Monica Hylton, right, look on.

Two Scotiabank-sponsored Girls' Primary School Cricket Skills Development Camps were completed in both Trinidad and Tobago as part of Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Limited's dedication to local and regional cricket development.

The Tobago camp took place from July 18-20 at Shaw Park, while the Trinidad leg was held from August 20-22 at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva.

The camps targeted girls between the ages of 9-13 years and focused on cricket skills development, the need for physical exercise, nutrition tips and the importance of sportsmanship, punctuality and discipline to the game.

The objectives of this initiative were also to encourage interest in the game among girls at primary schools and to increase the quantity and quality of cricketers available for national representation.

According to Shazard Mohammed, assistant manager, Sales Support at Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Limited: "This sponsorship effort represents a tangible investment in the young people of this country.

"Indeed, through cricket, we believe that our young people can secure a bright future simply by demonstrating dedication, discipline and commitment," Mohammed noted.

At the end of the camps, all participants were provided with Certificates of Participation, with seven girls being awarded ScotiaYES accounts for their outstanding performances.

These included Nikesha Rajkumar-Most Improved; Shelly Jones-Best Fielder; JeNade Garcia-Best Batswoman; Symple Felix-Most Disciplined; Tia Olyia-Most Helpful; Journella Wright-Best Bowler; Tenesha Lewis-Most Enthusiastic.
