Tobago law enforcement officers were kept busy yesterday as they probed a homicide, the first for the year, the attempted murder of a state witness and a road fatality which claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl.

The incidents occurred within the space of half-an-hour as the victims were making their way home from the Buccoo festival early yesterday.

Police said, Gracey, of Goodwood, was liming at the festival with a group of friends when he got into an argument with another man. Gracey was stabbed several times.

He was rushed to the Scarborough hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Shortly after the incident, a team of officers headed by Senior Supt Nadir Khan, mounted a search and held a suspect.

The suspect was up to late yesterday being interrogated by police.

A mere 15 minutes later, police had to rush to another crime scene, this time in Coral Gardens, Buccoo, where Mark was shot.

Police said Mark and another man had just left the Buccoo festival and were walking on the roadway when they were accosted by an assailant who opened fire on them.

Mark, police said, was shot three times in the leg and abdomen. The other man escaped unhurt.

Mark was rushed to the Scarborough hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. He remained in stable condition up to late yesterday.

Police have detained a suspect for questioning.

And even before officers had time to wrap up their probe into the shooting, they were summoned to investigate the hit-and-run accident in which Clarke was killed.

The accident happened at New Grange, approximately 200 metres from the Old Grange Police Station. Clarke had also attended the festival. She was on her way home when a car ploughed into her. The teenager was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital. A motorist, who reportedly sped off after the accident, was subsequently detained in Bethel.

The car has been impounded pending investigations. With Reporting by Casandra Thompson.

  • The homicide victim is Philbert Gracey, 45.
  • The state witness wounded in the attack was identified as Dominique Mark, 30, also known as “Teeths” of Coral Gardens, Buccoo.
