Police hold vendors, seize mannequins

SEVERAL mannequins were seized when the San Fernando City Corporation police raided several places in another attempt to rid of the city of illegal street vending yesterday.

The raids were carried out on Coffee and Mucurapo Streets and on Pointe-a-Pierre Road.

Six people were arrested and are to re-appear in court on Monday, charged with putting up stalls on the pavement, pathway obstruction and illegal offering of market commodities for sale.

The mannequins were seized from outside a store on Mucurapo Street. Children's and women's clothing, along with baby walkers and bicycles were also seized from outside a Coffee Street store. An employee at another store was charged with aiding and abetting the vendors.

The six people were each granted $1,500 bail to cover all their charges.

The raids were spearheaded by Insp Santana of the San Fernando City Police and included Sgt Arjoon and other officers attached to the San Fernando City Corporation Police.
