Pele, Platini, Beckenbauer confirmed for centennial dinner

The chairman of the English FA, Lord David Triesman has confirmed that he will attend the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (T&TFF) Centennial Dinner on September 5.

T&TFF special advisor Jack Warner got confirmation from Triesman at the Euro 2008 final, in Vienna, Austria, on Sunday. Warner was there as a guest of UEFA in his capacity as FIFA vice president and president of CONCACAF.

Warner, who is scheduled to return to T&T today, also confirmed that UEFA president Michel Platini will be here for the centennial dinner along with several other dignitaries, including FIFA president Sepp Blatter, former FIFA president Joao Havelange, Franz Beckenbauer and Pele.

Warner also met with and extended invitations to British Minister of Sport Gerry Sutcliffe and English FA chief executive officer Brian Barwick.

"Lord Triesman will be among several top dignitaries in Trinidad that weekend in September for the TTFF's centennial dinner. It promises to be a splendid affair as we intend to have some of the best with us to celebrate this milestone. Of course we will also be in the midst of our semi-final campaign for the 2010 World Cup, and our focus will continue to be ensuring that the country has as good a chance as any to make it to a second consecutive World Cup."

Warner said a schedule of warm-up matches is being finalised for the T&T senior team. The Soca Warriors are expected to play two matches in Central America next week.

Will Mr. Warner invite all ex-TT players to that dinner. At least the past players need to be at the table with all those distinguished gests.
