Parkites Reserves win Sunday League thriller

By STEPHON NICHOLAS Sunday, February 10 2008

QUEEN’S Park Cricket Club II beat Sheffield Sports by five wickets in a last-over thriller yesterday at the Queen’s Park Oval in Group “B” of the Carib Sunday League.

Sheffield posted a competitive 230 for nine in their 50 overs but the total proved to be insufficient as Queen’s Park’s Gareth Boodhai guided his team home with an unbeaten 40. Earlier Anthony Alexander had smashed a boundary-filled 67 to minimise the target.

Sheffield’s main bowler Daren Bachan took three for 29 but was unable to do more to contain the Queen’s Park batsmen who snatched victory in the final over.

Batting first Sheffield’s Rishad Khan scored 45 while Sudesh Mootilal hit 40 and Farad Mohammed chipped in with 33 to post a reasonable total.

Queen’s Park’s Rangy Ramdhin grabbed three for 38 while Jervon Charles took two for 48 and Romelle Small bagged two for 32.

In another match, Suruj Ragoonath hit a stroke-filled 85 as Alescon Comets amassed a daunting 250 for eight against Mayo Valley Boys.

Ragoonath was in fine fettle against Valley Boys who found it difficult to dislodge the Comets batsmen save a number of run outs.

In reply, Valley Boys were skittled out for a paltry 69 runs as Comets won by a huge 181-runs with Devon Clement blasting 41 in a lone battle versus Comets.

Magnun Nanan bowling his left-arm unorthodox was a thorn in the side of the Valley Boys claiming three wickets for no runs while Rishi Ramgoolie took three wickets for 18 runs to destroy the Valley Boys lineup.

Ceramic MerryBoys defeated Defence Force by five wickets in a 38 over rain interrupted match. Defence Force were bundled out for 141 in 37.4 overs with K Mohammed scoring 36. Ken Hazel was the chief wrecker for MerryBoys with four wickets for 15 runs while Aneil Kanhai took three for 27.

Former West Indies player Lincoln Roberts smashed 45 while TT’s Mario Belcon hit a useful 35 as Merry Boys made light work of the total.

Despite C Gonzalves grabbing five wickets for 20 runs, MerryBoys raced to the target in 30 overs to complete a comprehensive win.
