THIS year’s Santa Rosa Dash on Arima Race Club Day 17 at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, promises to be red hot.

At the first nomination stage recently, there were eight flyers for which connections paid the $400 fee for the 1200 metres race to be run on May 10.

Included among the eight is Personal Encounter not seen out since finishing runner-up to Storm Street in the Union Park Turf Club Trophy Stewards Cup over 1200 metres on December 8.

There is also an interesting newcomer among the field in American-bred Soca Warrior.

Other fleet-footed runners in the race are Ready Set Jet, Cash It Back, locally bred Gold Majesty, the consistent and well rested Coconut Boy and Man Of Class who will be looking to add this race to his list of 25 victories to become the winningest horse at Santa Rosa since centralisation in 1994. To date, a total of $3,200 in nomination fees have been collected. A second nomination fee of $400 becomes payable on or before April 2.

Meanwhile, there are 19 three-year-olds including two un-named, for which first nomination fees have been paid up for the Gleneagle Stakes over 1750 metres also to be run on May 10.

Among those for which first nomination of $400 was paid is Guardian Life St Ann’s Stakes winner Sansara who failed last time out. But missing from the list is Guardian St James Stakes winner Joint Effort who was also well beaten in his latest start.

A total of $7,600 in nomination fees were paid up while a second nomination fee of $300 becomes due on March 20.
