A LICENSING officer died instantly when a car crashed head-on into his motorcycle along the Valencia Stretch yesterday.

Two other persons who remained unidentified were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mount Hope and warded in serious condition.

According to a police report, at about 10.45 am Hylton Francis, 51, of Kingdom Avenue, Mathurita Village, Arima was riding his motorcycle west along the Valencia Stretch, also called the “Gaza Strip,” when a Honda Civic crashed into him. Police said the Civic, which was occupied by two men, was travelling east along the road and its driver was attempting to overtake a line of cars, in the vicinity of Turure Road, when the accident occurred. Police said upon impact, Francis was thrown from his motorcycle onto the roadway where he died instantly.

The two other persons — occupants of the Honda Civic motorcar were both taken to the Sangre Grande District Hospital where they were treated and transferred to the (EWMSC).

Speaking with Sunday Newsday yesterday a relative said that Francis was first attached to the Licensing Office in Arima and was then transferred to Port-of-Spain.
