Klondykes Sports Club produced a remarkable performance against Aranjuez Sports Club to lift the 2008 Klondykes Windball Trophy, getting home by 17 runs in the final at the Aranjuez Savannah on Sunday.
Klondykes won the toss and decided to bat first, but they found themselves in dire straits against some accurate bowling from Fareed Mohammed and Wendell Samuel and were reeling at eight runs for the loss of five wickets.
However, former national youth player Sunil Narine joined opener Avery Mejias and together they took the score to 28, before Mejias departed for a well-played knock of 16.
Klondykes rallied to reach 48 for nine at the end of the allotted 15 overs. Narine was the top-scorer for Klondykes with 20.
Bowling for Aranjuez, Samuel and Deepak Kumar picked up three wickets apiece, while Mohammed claimed two.
In reply, Aranjuez were off to a good start with Sunil Singh and Safraz Laloo taking the score to 13 before the first wicket fell.
But against some excellent bowling from Mejias, with three for 13, Terrence Hinds (3/10), Dale Jagessar (2/4) and Sheldon Balroop, who also ended with two for four, the Aranjuez batsmen crumbled and were dismissed for 32.
Narine, who did not claim a wicket but conceded just one run from three overs, was named Man of the Match.
