Keep faith with Man Of ClassBy MIDAS Saturday, January 26 2008
THERE will be diverse interest in the feature Allowance sprint on Arima Race Club Day 3 at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, when racing resumes after a one-week break today.
Foremost, however, is whether Man Of Class will take over as the horse winning most races since centralisation of horse racing at Santa Rosa 13 years ago.
This ten-year-old horse will go into the 1200 metres race worth a total of $32,500 with just 51.5 kilos in his saddle and could well do the trick.
But it will not be easy with Divine Bull, Coconut Boy, Trust N Confidence, an impressive winner of his debut start, Ready Set Jet and stablemate Sara’s Music who beat the “Iron Horse” easily last time they met.
But turfites will not be far off backing the son of Bandsman/Touch Of Class which is conditioned by the cagey master trainer Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj.
It looks like a regulation walk-in-the-park for Guardian Life St James Stakes winner Joint Effort in the 1350 metres race for West Indies-bred three-year- olds with Wakken and Forwardtracking his main threats.
Two trainers will make their debut on today’s nine-race programme, Anthony Leotaud and Jonathan Lyder.
Leotaud will saddle all horses previously handled by champion trainer John O’Brien.
But while Leotaud will send out eight runners, there will only be one for Lyder – Divine Bull in the feature.
Meanwhile, the inquiry into the finding of the prohibited substance Methocarbamol in the urine sample taken from Storm Street has been postponed to February 7.
