WALKING HER GOATS: A woman leads her two goats down a steep road to a nearby field at Pashley Street in Laventille yesterday. ...

FRUSTRATED John John, Laventille residents claim that more then 20 families have been left without electrical power since Saturday night, after an electricity pole caught fire.

Resident Hazel Smith said: “There was a fire on an electricity pole in the area over the weekend and no one has come to restore power to the area.” She said the TT Electricity Commission visited the area earlier this week and did some work on the pole but left saying the rest was up to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

She added that after TTEC left, power still had not been restored.

“The HDC went to the site and saw that the pole was covered in vines and attempted to expedite the matter by removing the vines from the pole,” explained Leslie John, HDC communications officer. John added that TTEC should have visited the site yesterday to restore power and was confident the matter would be resolved. Stephen Martel, TTEC corporate communications manager said: “The pole is a privately owned one by the HDC and it is up to them to do the repairs.”

“The Government Electrical Inspectorate then has to approve the repairs and then TTEC will restore the electrical supply to the area,” he added.
