HOMICIDE officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 69-year-old pensioner Manhanie Bhola, 69, whose body was found in the yard of her Orchid Gardens, Tarouba home on Wednesday morning.

The body was reportedly discovered by a 72-year-old male relative eight hours after he first saw her lying on the grass in the yard.

The male relative told police that he spent most of Wednesday morning drinking rum with Bhola and the lime only ended when she lay down on the grass in the yard. The man told police he thought Bhola was asleep.

The grieving man told police that at about 4.30 pm, he checked on Bhola and shook her head in an effort to wake her up. Realising she was dead, the man raised an alarm and a report was made to the police.

A party of officers along with the District Medical Officer arrived and the body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre where an autopsy was to have been carried out yesterday.
