Former West Indies opening batsman Desmond Haynes is set to deliver the feature address at Friday's launch of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Academy at the National Cricket Centre, Balmain, Couva.
The live-in camp, which will run for nine weekends at the Sir Frank Worrell Development Centre, involves 17 players who were in and around the national team for the last few seasons.
Ceramic Merry Boys batsman Mario Belcon heads the list of participants, which also includes national Under-19 players Kjorn Ottley and Yannic Cariah, as well as former youth players Anthony Balgobin, Kevon Cooper and Darren Bravo.
T&T Cricket Board CEO Forbes Persaud said the Board were trying to get West Indies coach John Dyson, as well as former Windies fast bowler Andy Roberts, national coaches Kelvin Williams and David Williams and Stanford Superstars fielding coach Julien Fountain to be part of the camp.
The players are all on the fringes of national selection and the TTCB believe they have the "potential to represent Trinidad and Tobago and the West Indies," according to Persaud, and "have been selected to undergo socialised training during the course of the programme.
"The guys selected are people you have been hearing about and these are the players we are focussing on," said the TTCB official.
Persaud also indicated that some of the other T&T players, such as Adrian Barath, were not included on the list as they have been selected on the national team consistently during the last few seasons and they have already benefitted from a higher level of coaching.
Players called are:
Mario Belcon, William Perkins, Darren Bravo, Justin Guillen, Dane Teelucksingh, Kjorn Ottley, Yannic Cariah, Anthony Balgobin, Kevon Cooper, Rishi Bachan, Sunil Narine, Visham Ramroop, Daron Cruickshank, Shannon Gabriel, Keegan Roy, Dion Bennett, Magnum Nanan.
