TWO bandits who stabbed a driver and hijacked his goods truck bound for the Caricom jetty in Port-of-Spain, escaped after the truck overturned in the vicinity of Courts Mega Store along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway yesterday.

According to police reports, at about 1.40 pm, the driver along with two loaders who are employees of Camacho Brothers Ltd, were proceeding along El Socorro Road when the loaders stopped at a roti shop to purchase food.

The driver who was waiting for the loaders was held up at gunpoint by two men who stabbed him in the chest. They entered the truck, sitting on either end of the bleeding driver and sped off.

The bandits drove to the Churchill Roosevelt Highway and were heading west when the truck overturned.

Highway patrol officers who were alerted to the overturned truck went to the scene and found the driver pleading for help, telling them he had just been hijacked and stabbed. Employees of Camacho Brothers were alerted and went to the highway with a wrecker which towed the overturned truck to its El Socorro compound.

The driver was taken to Port-of-Spain General Hospital (PoSGH) for treatment. Investigations are continuing.
