De Silva continues golden run in Catch Junior tennis

Friday, April 4 2008

KEEGAN DE SILVA continued his remarkable progression in the Boys Under-18 Singles category of the Catch National Junior Tennis Championships with a straight sets victory over Leon Fraser yesterday.

Playing at the Jean Pierre Complex in Mucurapo, De Silva was in miserly form sweeping the opening set 6-0 while restricting his opponent to just one game in the match taking following set 6-1 to complete a convincing victory.

He will square off against last year’s Under-16 winner Vaughn Wilson for the title and will be fancying his chances after ousting the top seed Jovani Lewis in the “quarters” on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Dayna Grazette will be aiming to stop two-time defending champion Raye Ann Sandy from securing a hat-trick of titles in the Girls Under-18 Singles final today.

Grazette, the 2005 champ was in good form eliminating Krystyn French-Vincent in the semi-final 6-0, 6-1 while Sandy dispatched her opponent Samantha De Gannes in straight sets. Sandy was hardly tested against De Gannes cruising into the final courtesy a 6-3, 6-1 win to set up an exciting show down in the final between the 2005, 2006, 2007 winners.

And Nalini Maharaj looks on course to retain her title after a workmanlike performance against Shontelle Yearwood. The defending champion’s powerful serves and returns were too much for Yearwood who only managed to win one game in the match going down 6-0, 6-1.

The other “semi” was contested by Dayle Angus and Nicolette Leacock with the latter victorious 6-0, 6-1.

The 2007 Tennis TT Most Outstanding Boys Under-14 player, Seve Day vindicated his rating with a hard fought 7-5, 6-2 win over Shaquille Bernard in the semi-final of the Under-16 category while Adrian De Silva advanced to the Boys Under-14 final with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Jabrille Kabli.
