SENTENCING has been delayed until today for a father and his two sons who were found guilty last week of possession of a firearm and other offences.
Kalique Mohammed, and his sons Ishmael and Tashmeel, were all found guilty by magistrate Avason Quinlan, presiding in the Port of Spain 4B Court on Friday. The men were then remanded into custody until today.
A fourth man, Randy Phillip, a friend of the family, was also arrested with the trio. However, a no-case submission made by Phillip's attorney, Patrick Godson-Phillips, was upheld by Quinlan.
Godson-Phillip submitted that his client, at the time of the arrest, claimed no knowledge of the weapon, the nine rounds of .9mm and six rounds of .38 ammunition, which were allegedly found at the Mohammeds' residence.
The men were also arrested for having possession of a quantity of marijuana.
In his submission, Godson-Phillip claimed that his client was downstairs of the Mohammed's Sunset Drive, Bagatelle, Diego Martin home, in the family's work shop. He added that Phillip was not in the house when police visited.
Quinlan agreed with Godson-Phillip's submission and found Phillip not guilty and released him.
The men were arrested on May 5, 2005. The Mohammeds were represented by Theodore Guerra SC. (JL)
