The cracked pavement....
The cracked pavement....

SUZANNE Kingsley has lived at Mon Repos, San Fernando, for 26 years without any real problems – until now.

A cracked pavement has somewhat disrupted Kingsley’s way of life since the water from the drain is being redirected into her yard. “Three years now this crack is there but it was not so bad then,” she said, adding that it has got worse.

She said last year a health inspector visited the area and promised that he would let the City Corporation know about it. “But nothing is being done about it,” she said. Kingsley also said she was told by the corporation’s engineer that a contractor had already been hired and asked that she “bear with them.”

But all the water comes straight over and into my yard. It happens more when it rains and the water is widening cracks on the walkway,” she said.

According to her, there are other tenants in the HDC apartment building, but the problem did not affect them. “It affecting my side but if it keeps up, in time it would start to affect the other tenants because that water would crack the concrete,” she said.

Kingsley also has the task of sweeping the water from the compound. And, she said with the recent rainfall, under the apartment building was flooded because the water had no where to go.

“Rain falling regularly and heavy. The most I can do is to sweep it out...Sometimes I just leave it as is.”

When contacted, Wendy Gibbs, councillor for the area, said approval was given by the San Fernando City Corporation to have the pavement repaired. Gibbs also promised to look into the matter.
