Cops ignoring me

By LAUREL V WILLIAMS Monday, March 10 2008

A FATHER OF TWO is accusing policemen of ignoring a robbery report he made, because he is the General Manager of a security company. Ancil Russell, 36, head of Investigative Protective Security Services Limited located on Penal Rock Road, Penal visited Newsday’s South office yesterday to highlight what he described as “utter stupidness”.

Russell said that on February 26, he was robbed of $5,000 by three armed bandits at about 11.30 am as he was about to leave Republic Bank’s fast service. He added that the bank is located a stone’s throw away from the Penal Police Station.

“The three armed bandits ran off in the bushes across the street. I immediately went to report the matter. But the police told me to go and find the bandits myself because I have a company and this should not be happening to me,” Russell said.

“Only when people dead is when the police react,” Russel said, adding that although he was a victim of crime, the police were not sympathetic.

The company, which is situated next to his home, specialises in K9 security, personal bodyguards and security for construction. The father of two is calling on the Commissioner of Police Trevor Paul to launch a thorough investigation into the police’s failure to take his report and investigate the incident. When Newsday contacted the police station, usually helpful officers, suddenly became unresponsive.
