ST PIUS Boys’ RC’s star batsman Brian Christmas is the favourite today to cop the prestigious Primary School Cricketer of the Year Award when the Atlantic LNG National Primary Schools/Cricket League holds its presentation of prizes and awards for the 2008 season at the Rudranath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre, at Mc Bean, Couva, at 9.45 am).

Christmas had a profilic season with both bat and ball, guiding St Pius to the premier Super League title in the school’s first year in the division.

However, he is expected to get competition for the top award from team-mate Kyle Ramoutar, Jeron Maniram (Rochard Douglas Presbyterian), Sherwin Adams (Moruga RC), Che Lewis (Tunapuna Presbyterian) and lone female contender Allisa Joseph (Palo Seco Government).

Among the dignitaries scheduled to address the gathering of players, teachers, league and other officials, is Minister of Education, Esther Le Gendre, who was instrumental in forging the partnership between the National Primary Schools Cricket League and main sponsor Atlantic LNG, when she served as Manager, Government & Public Affairs, at the energy company some years ago.

Also listed to bring greetings are representatives of Atlantic LNG and the Ministry of Sport, as well as President of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB), Deryck Murray and NPSCL President, Anthony Ramjit. Glen Dwarika will present the secretary’s report on the league’s activities for 2008.

Awards for team champions will be presented to: St Pius Boys’ RC (Super League), Tunapuna Presbyterian (Inter-School Boys), Palo Seco Government (Inter-School Girls) and South Education District (Inter-District Boys).
