Andy Gobin led the Central Zone Under-13 cricketers to an eight-wicket victory over their South Zone counterparts during the second round of the BG Trinidad and Tobago InterZone Tournament at Syne Village, Penal yesterday.
The victory puts Central in the semi-finals, scheduled for May 19, along with North, who completed a ten-wicket trouncing of North East, while Al Small top-scored with 82 for South East as they registered a 202-run victory over South West yesterday.
At Syne Village, South won the toss and were bowled out for 37 in 16 overs. Central skipper, Gobin, a right-arm off-spinner, took five for eight after right-arm fast bowler Renie Moonsammy removed the first two wickets to finish with two for 16. Another right-arm off-spinner, Brian Charles, also picked up two for one.
In reply, Kamil Pooran stroked 17, while Gobin was unbeaten on six.
In another match yesterday, Small led South East to 253 for five, with Jonathan Singh and Terrence Nanan getting 44 and 41, respectively.
Kyron Ramlal was the best bowler for South West, picking up two for 26, and South West only managed 51 all out, with Singh taking two for two and Gabal Blackwell three for three.
East won their first two matches and are assured of a spot in the semi-finals but they will go up against North tomorrow at Honeymoon Park in El Dorado to decide who will finish on top in the group.
