Carlista dominates Fed Cup tennis trials

Sunday, February 10 2008

CARLISTA MOHAMMED beat Raye Ann Sandy in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 yesterday to continue her dominance of the trials to pick the Trinidad and Tobago Fed Cup team.

Mohammed looked in good form at the Tacarigua Tennis Centre and is set to take her place alongside TT’s Olivia Bennett and Yolande Leacock as she won her third straight match.

She will face Sandy today in their best of three match trying to take an unassailable 2-0 lead.

Earlier yesterday, Sandy brushed aside the winless Lee-Anne Lingo 6-3, 6-3 thus making it impossible for Lingo to make the team.

Lingo will play Sandy in Game One today while Sandy has all to play for and will be aiming to prolong Lingo’s disappointing performance in the trials.

On Friday, Mohammed hammered Lingo 6-0, 6-3 and was ahead of her 6-3, 5-4 (40-0) before injury forced Lingo to retire.
