THE CONGRESS of the People (COP) is moving full steam ahead to contest the upcoming local government elections in the form of strategic interventions in the various electoral areas.

So insisted COP chairman Roy Augustus who said co-ordinators had been appointed in all 14 local government regions and committees were elected to “undertake the necessary work.”

Augustus said co-ordinators had been requested to conduct field surveys to provide a list of problems and issues in their respective regions, as well as recommendations as to how they intended to address them.

The party has also appointed a subcommittee to prepare a local government manifesto that will incorporate the philosophy, policies and strategies for effective local governance, a release stated yesterday.

Augustus said an evaluation of the 2007 general election results indicated that the COP was strategically poised to win in a number of electoral regions and districts.

He said application forms for prospective candidates were expected to be completed and returned to the party by Monday.
