MOMENTS after being called out and told to wait on someone at a bridge in Gasparillo, a Cunupia man was killed execution-style with a bullet through the head on Sunday night.

Police investigating the murder of Theron Haynes, 37, said his friend who dropped him off at the bridge, on seeing the gunman shoot Haynes, drove and knocked down the killer who still managed to escape.

According to police reports, Haynes was at his Citrus Avenue, Cunupia home when at about 8 pm, he received a telephone call from someone he knew, asking him (Haynes) to meet the caller at a bridge. Haynes contacted a friend who drove him to a bridge near Andy’s Bar in Bonne Aventure, Gasparillo. He alighted from the car and sat on the railing of the bridge and waited for the person who had earlier called him. Haynes’ friend drove off.

Minutes later, a man walked up to Haynes and shot him once in the head. Haynes’ friend, police said, saw what was taking place and turned his car around and drove back to the bridge. Police said the man knocked down the killer who got up and ran along the road, eventually making his way to the Solomon Hochoy Highway where he escaped through some bushes.

A report was made to the Gasparillo police and officers arrived on the scene and cordoned off the area where Haynes’ body lay.
