BROOKLYN United beat Desert United by 26 runs and claimed the $5,000 first prize and trophy in the BGTT and Anthony Roberts sponsored Women’s Big Four Finals of the Tyro Sports Club Day/Night Cricket League.

Batting first, Brooklyn posted a daunting 107 for eight wickets in their allotted 12 overs with Janelle Marchan and Roxanne King top-scoring with 18 each.

Trudy Darmanie was the main wicket-taker for Desert United returning figures of four wickets for a miserly 18 runs.

Desert United were in trouble from the start losing early wickets that hindered their run-chase. Viola Soungie hit 16 runs and Judy Forde scored 15 but it was not enough as Desert United limped to 81 for six when the overs elapsed.

And Tyro bowlers’, Kenroy Walker and Sunil Narine combined to grab five wickets as their team edged Public Enemy by just ten runs to clinch a thrilling Men’s Big Four Finals.

Narine had earlier blasted 17 runs for Tyro as they battled hard to reach 100 for six off 15 overs. Imtiaz Ali top-scored with a quick-fire 18 runs. Public Enemy looked to be on course for victory with Keston Daniel smashing 22 and Keron Noreiga 11 but they were pegged back by superb spells of bowling from Walker and Narine.

Walker snared three for 19 while Narine, bowling his off-spin, took two for five, to restrict Public Enemy to 90 for eight.

Narine, who played in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup finished the tournament with the highest run aggregate scoring 212 runs. Riaf Ali, who took the tournament’s first hat-trick had the most wickets in the competition grabbing ten for Tyro.

Rohan Parsadan of Jaggan United was the league’s top-scorer with 83.
