ST AUGUSTINE MP Vasant Bharath confirmed yesterday he has resigned as chief executive officer (CEO) of the Nutrimix Group of Companies to devote himself full time to serving his constituents.

In a telephone interview, Bharath said he had made several commitments to his constituents during the election campaign and he intends to keep them.

“In order to be able to fulfil those commitments to my liking, I need to devote more time to my constituents and a full time job restricts me from doing that,” he said.

In his resignation letter to Nutrimix president Shaheed Mohammed, dated January 11, the Opposition MP said the country is in a deep social and political crisis.

“I have, therefore, decided to devote more of my time and efforts in representing the people of St Augustine, and assisting, where I am able, in rebuilding our once safe and beautiful nation.”

Bharath has held the position of CEO at Nutrimix since April 2005.

He sais he left Nutrimix with a sense of satisfaction at seeing the company capturing a significant share of the local market.

Bharath said his priority now was to address the problems associated with the Blackman Ravine in St Augustine.

In addition, he said, he was addressing the issue of housing and compensation for Oropoune residents.

Bharath said this may lead to legal action against the Government.
