A CHALLENGE was yesterday issued to all students of Vedic primary schools to continue to strive for excellence in the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) examination and for their achievements they will be rewarded with a prize of $5,000.

This was yesterday announced during celebrations held by the Gandhi Memorial Vedic APS Primary School to honour top SEA student Ajay Rameshwarsingh.

He was presented with a cheque of $5,000 and was also given rewards by the school’s Parent Teacher Association. He was also sponsored a weekend at a beach resort and given a Serta mattress. The celebration started with a puja (prayer session) and continued with a cultural show. Rameshwarsingh also performed “hawan.”

Several prizes were also given out to Rameshwarsingh and classmates Neeval Dindial, Zayne Koolkut and Amelia Ram, who all placed in the top 20.

Surojini Singh, sister of Ajay’s class teacher Keshmani Seebaransingh, made the announcement that the top performing student of all Vedic schools in TT will receive a prize of $5,000. She said this award was in honour of her father Ramcharan Dhaniram, who was an active member of the Vedic community in Avocat Village, Fyzabad.

Singh said the student who placed first in the examination and comes from the Avocat Vedic Primary School will receive a prize of $10,000. Yesterday’s students of Gandhi Memorial dressed in their beautiful East Indian wear.
