AA Laquis dies at 67

BUSINESSMAN Abraham A Laquis died at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida, USA, yesterday, after a long battle with cancer.

Laquis, 67, reportedly died peacefully, surrounded by his family.

At age 16, Laquis joined his immigrant father, the late Anthony Laquis, in his family business, where he proved to be a true entrepreneur. He went on to found other businesses, among them AA Laquis.

He was chairman of AA Laquis Ltd and a former secretary general of the Trinidad and Tobago Red Cross. He was also the brother of Dr George Laquis, founder and chairman of the Cancer Society, and former parliamentarian Dr Joseph Laquis.

Laquis leaves to mourn his wife Annie Laquis, sons Anthony, Andrew, Amos and Alain and daughter, Anya Koury.

His funeral will be held in Trinidad at a date and venue to be announced.
