$5,000 for winner of PSA 10k event today Saturday, September 6 2008
WINNER of the inaugural Public Services Association (PSA) of Trinidad and Tobago HIV/AIDS Awareness 10K will collect $5,000.
The event takes off today at 4:30 pm opposite White Hall in Port-of-Spain.
There is also a special category - a one-lap race for PSA members and employees only.
Veteran Vincentian distance runner Pamenos Ballantyne is expected to be among the prominent starters in the Open Class.
The runner-up in the Open category will take home $4,000 while the third place finisher receives $3,000. The top three finishers in the Women’s Class will receive $4,000, $3,000 and $2,000 respectively.
Cash prizes will also be awarded to athletes in the 12 and Under, Over-50 and Differently Abled categories.
The runners will start at Queen’s Park Savannah, then make a lap before making their way along saddle road, Long Circular Road, Tragarete Road, Cipriani Boulevard before finishing at the Queen’s Park Savannah opposite Queen’s Royal College.
A token will be awarded to each person completing the course. The event is intended to sensitise PSA members and the public of the need to treat those afflicted with HIV/AIDS with compassion, dignity and respect.
The race will also provide the PSA members with an opportunity to participate in a sporting activity and join ranks with elite runners and other well-known personalities.
Persons interested in participating in the race and have not registered yet can do so on race day from 2 pm to 3 pm opposite QRC, Queen’s Park Savannah at a cost of $30.
