Three men narrowly escaped death early yesterday morning, when the car in which they were travelling plunged off the Cipero Bridge, San Fernando, and landed on its hood on the grassy bank of the river.

According to reports, Donnell Lewis, 21, of Claxton Bay, was driving his silver Mazda 323 at about 4 am, when he received a bad drive from two vehicles that were involved in a drag race.

Lewis, a data entry clerk at South-West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA), lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into two concrete pillars on the Cipero Interchange before plunging 20 feet down the river bank.

Lewis and his cousin Darnell Lewis, 22, and Miguel Kingsale were returning home from a party in La Romaine when the accident occurred.

The three men sustained minor injuries and were treated at the San Fernando General Hospital.

Investigations are continuing.
