A 62-year-old man, who was sitting at the side of the roadway, was crushed to death when a car rolled over him.
Two others were killed instantly when the car in which they were travelling crashed into a steel railing along the Solomon Hochoy Highway.
And a father of two was in critical condition at hospital last night after a truck dragged him for almost 40 feet along the roadway.
The accidents happened hours apart on Saturday evening.
Around 3.30 p.m. Krishendath Kariah was on his way home from a neighbourhood parlour when he stopped to talk to some friends.
"He was sitting at the side of the road as he usually does when a car came up and rolled over him. The driver them reversed and my brother remained on the roadway," cried Lilawatie Seecharan.
The incident happened metres away from Kariah's home at Delhi Road, Fyzabad.
Kariah, who retired as a labourer at an oil company, was not married and had no children.
"He was a good man. He did not deserve to die like that. The man who hit him did not even find it in his heart to apologise to us," Seecharan said.
Police were last night questioning the driver of a blue Suzuki car.
At 10.45 p.m. 43-year-old Anthony Francis was driving his black B-14 car near the Macaulay flyover when he lost control and crashed into a steel railing.
Francis, of Chase Village, Chaguanas died on the spot.
Hazel Ann Bess, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was thrown from the car. Bess, of St Ann's, Port-of-Spain, was also killed instantly.
And about an hour later 30-year-old Anthony James parked his car below a streetlight and was looking under the bonnet when he was knocked down by a speeding truck.
His wife, Sharmaine James, 25, said she was sitting inside the car with their eight-year-old daughter and one-year-old son when the incident happened along the main road in Woodland, near La Romaine, .
"We were having problems with the car, so my husband parked under the light and was checking under the bonnet. I did not see any cars coming and I turned to fix the baby. The next thing I know a truck come and knocked him away. My daughter jumped out the car and started running and screaming," she said.
James said residents ran out to help her. "They brought a torch light and we started looking for my husband. We found him about 40 feet from where the car was parked. The truck driver just continued driving, he never stopped," she said.
James, who lives at Lilian Street, La Romaine, said her husband was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital in an Emergency Medical Services ambulance. Up to late night he was listed in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit.
San Fernando police visited the scene and are continuing investigations.
