A woman and a man died in separate road accidents over the Easter weekend.

On Saturday night, Marsha Samaroo died on the spot when a vehicle crashed into her as she tried to cross the south-bound lane of the Solomon Hochoy Highway in the vicinity of Chaguanas.

Samaroo, 28, was killed at about 11.15 pm. She hired at Orange Field Road, Carapichaima, and the Chaguanas police are investigating.

Meanwhile, Barataria police are investigating the circumstances surrounding another car accident which claimed the life of Sheldon Amorgan near Maritime Plaza in Barataria.

Police reported that on Friday night, Amorgan, 24, and three relatives were heading to their Walker Street Frederick Settlement, Caroni home when the accident occurred.

The cause of the accident remains unclear but Amorgan who was in the front passenger seat of the vehicle was pulled from the wreckage sometime after midnight and rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries early Saturday morning.

Amorgan was a steel fabricator and married with a two-year-old son.

Later on Saturday afternoon, a three-car smash-up on the Solomon Hochoy Highway near the Claxton Bay flyover resulted in two teenage siblings having to seek treatment for minor injuries at hospital. Sherma Dindial, 16, and Dillon Dindial, 15, of Sancho Road, New Grant, were in the backseat of a Nissan Almera car driven by Sheldon Seeratan, while their mother Shamilla sat in the front passenger seat.

They were proceeding on the north-bound lane of the highway when Seeratan lost control while overtaking and crashed into a vehicle driven by Siewsankar Ramasar of Debe. On impact, Ramasar’s car slammed into another car driven by Maricola Nelson, 48, of East Dry River, Port-of-Spain.

Sherma and Dillon were taken to the San Fernando General Hospital and treated for minor injuries. The others were not injured.

The accident caused a traffic pile-up on the highway. WPC Andell of St Margaret’s Police Station is investigating the incident.
