Two students of the Signal Hill Secondary Comprehensive School in Tobago were in police custody late yesterday following a stabbing incident at the school, which occurred shortly before 3 p.m.
Police said a fight between two female students on the school compound left one nursing a stab injury to the neck, while another was bitten. Detectives said the stab wound was not life-threatening.
A security guard at the school compound, who tried to quell the melee, was assaulted by a male student. Police seized the knife, which was thrown into a drain at the back of the cafeteria.
This situation follows a boycott of classes by teachers on November 5 and a protest by parents last Monday over unsatisfactory security measures at the school. The Education Division has since intervened and met with TTUTA, parents and teachers of the school to seek a solution to the problem.
