IF ANYONE wants to know about the good ole days, they could ask Francis Felix - he has lived through it all.
Felix is 103 years young, as of yesterday, and is an inspiration to everyone in Paramin village where he has spent his entire life.
Some may think that at 103, Felix may be bed ridden, with a vague memory. But not this centenarian. In reality, Felix, with his quick wit and great sense of humour, looks like a man in his eighties. He speaks fluent patois, loves telling jokes and giving riddles and is considered by his grandchildren to be 'fresh'.
Felix was one of those who watched this year's budget presentation from start to finish and can tell you just how much he has witnessed over 100 years.
He can tell you that he remembers a time when one could buy 12, 15 or even 30 Carite fish for one dollar.
Felix lives alone and even cooks for himself, on an average day, one may catch him stirring up a pot of provisions and fish with his famous fish gravy.
But yesterday, Felix kept away from the kitchen and spent last evening partying with family and friends, who brought along a dj.
He says his long life is as a result of living and eating good.
"I used to eat fish, pork and provisions growing up and I still do. I even make a good gravy to go with the fish. And I live good, I don't be in any bacchanal with anybody," he said.
Felix or 'Attiman' as he is better known by villagers has had a fulfilling life, which was not without its troubles.
At the age of 12, Felix's mother, Matilda died when she was only 28. Soon after his father left Felix and his siblings to fend for themselves. Not long after, Felix was forced to discontinue his schooling prematurely and work as a fisherman to support himself and two brothers.
At the age of 23, Felix married his true love and over the years the couple had 14 children. After 61 years of marriage, his wife died in 1988.
At a time when people consider living to the age of 80 to be a blessing, 'Attiman' is walking proof that man can live for so much longer. Felix has lived to see five generations within his family, and is convinced he will live to see many more.
"God's willing, I'll be around for the next ten years!" he said with a laugh .
